Please read these terms before you book. They set out what we agree to provide, what we ask of you, what you pay, and your rights if you change your mind. They form a legally binding contract between you and us once your place is confirmed.
1. Who we are
Ajnadayn Institute is the trading name of Maheer Hasan, a sole trader established in England. We teach Islamic history in live online cohorts.
- Provider
- Maheer Hasan, trading as Ajnadayn Institute
- Telephone
- 07961 609367
- Postal address
- Available on request — email us and we will provide it within one working day
- Website
- ajnadayninstitute.co.uk
In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Ajnadayn Institute. "You" and "your" mean the person booking a course.
2. Our courses
Each course has its own page on our website setting out the title, what it covers, its level, the number of weeks it runs, the weekly session day and time, and the fee. That page forms part of these terms.
Courses are taught live over Zoom, in weekly sessions, in small cohorts. They are not pre-recorded lecture banks.
Recommended reading is listed for each course. Recommended books are not supplied by us and are not included in the fee. You are not required to buy them, and you can follow the course without them.
3. Who can enrol
Our courses are open only to students aged 18 and over. By booking, you confirm you are 18 or over.
Unless a course page says otherwise, no prior background in history is required.
4. Booking, and when the contract starts
- You send us an enquiry telling us which course you would like to join.
- We reply with the course details, the fee, our bank details, a payment reference, and a copy of these terms.
- You pay the fee by bank transfer, quoting the reference.
- We email you to confirm your place, with the Zoom link and the schedule.
The contract between us begins when we send you that confirmation email, not when you enquire and not when you pay. Enquiring does not reserve a place, and neither does payment on its own.
If we cannot offer you a place, we will tell you and refund any payment in full.
5. Fees and payment
Fees are stated in pounds sterling on each course page and are payable in full and in advance by bank transfer. We do not offer instalments and we do not take card payments.
Please use the payment reference we give you. It is how we identify your payment. Without it we may not be able to confirm your place in time.
Our bank details are published on our website. We will never email you to tell you our bank details have changed. If you receive a message that appears to come from us asking you to pay a different account, do not pay it — telephone us on the number above to check.
Any bank charges, currency conversion costs or intermediary fees on your payment are yours to bear. We must receive the full fee.
6. Your right to change your mind
Because you book at a distance, you have a legal right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
You may cancel within 14 days, beginning the day after we confirm your place, and receive a full refund. You do not need to give a reason.
To cancel, just tell us clearly before the 14 days end — an email to info@ajnadayninstitute.co.uk saying you wish to cancel is enough. You may use the form at the end of these terms, but you do not have to.
We will refund you within 14 days of being told, using the same method you paid by.
6.1 If your course starts inside those 14 days
Sometimes a course begins before your 14 days are up. If you want to join those sessions rather than wait, we need you to ask us to start.
By ticking the box or confirming in writing when you book, you request that we begin teaching during the 14-day cancellation period, and you acknowledge that:
- if you then cancel within the 14 days, we may charge you a fair, proportionate amount for the teaching and materials already delivered, and refund the balance; and
- once the course has been fully delivered, you will lose your right to cancel, even if the 14 days have not expired.
6.2 Session recordings
Recordings are digital content. If you ask us to give you access to recordings during the 14-day cancellation period and acknowledge that you lose your right to cancel in respect of them once access begins, we will release them to you straight away. Otherwise we will make them available once your cancellation period ends.
Your right to cancel the live teaching is not affected by this.
7. Cancelling after the 14 days
Once the cancellation period has passed, fees are non-refundable.
We know circumstances change, so:
- If you tell us before the course starts, we will move you to the next cohort of the same course at no charge. This may be done once.
- If you miss a session, you do not lose it — recordings are available to you for the duration of your cohort.
- If something serious happens — illness, bereavement, or similar — tell us. We will deal with it reasonably and in good faith, and nothing in these terms prevents us from being generous where it is right to be.
8. If we change or cancel a course
We may occasionally need to change the day or time of a session, or the order of topics. Where we do, we will give you as much notice as we can. Minor changes do not entitle you to a refund.
If we cancel a session and cannot reschedule it, we will refund you a fair proportion of the fee.
If we cancel a course before it starts — including where too few students have enrolled for a cohort to run well — we will tell you and refund your fee in full.
If we cancel a course part-way through, you may choose either a refund of the fee for the sessions not delivered, or a place on the next cohort at no charge.
If a change is significant and you do not want to accept it, you may cancel and receive a refund for the part of the course not yet delivered.
9. Recordings, materials and copyright
All course materials remain ours. That includes the recordings, slides, handouts, reading guides, outlines and anything else we provide. We, or the people we license from, own the copyright in them.
When you enrol, we give you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the materials for your own private study. Your access to recordings lasts for the duration of your cohort.
You must not:
- share, forward, upload or republish any recording or material, including to social media, messaging groups, cloud drives or file-sharing sites;
- share your Zoom link with anyone else;
- make your own recording, screen capture or transcript of a session without our written permission;
- use any material for commercial purposes, or to teach a course of your own.
We take this seriously. If you breach this clause we may remove you from the course without refund, and we reserve our legal rights.
Other students appear in the recordings. Please treat what you see and hear in a session, and anything a fellow student shares, as private to the cohort.
10. What we ask of you
- Treat your tutor and fellow students with respect and courtesy.
- Arrive on time and mute your microphone when you are not speaking.
- Do not use sessions to promote a business, a cause, or a political or sectarian position.
- Do not behave in a way that is abusive, harassing, discriminatory or disruptive.
If your conduct is seriously or persistently unacceptable, we may remove you from the course. Where we do so, we will normally refund the fee for sessions not yet delivered — but we are not obliged to where the behaviour was serious.
11. What you need in order to take part
You will need a device with a working internet connection, and the Zoom application. Zoom is provided by a third party under its own terms, and we are not responsible for it.
We are not responsible for your own equipment, software or internet connection, and we cannot refund you for sessions you were unable to join for those reasons — though recordings will be available to you.
12. What we are, and what we are not
We teach history. Our courses are educational and academic, not a substitute for religious guidance or a ruling on a point of Islamic law. Where matters of belief or jurisprudence arise, they are addressed as history.
We are not an accredited or regulated education provider. We do not award degrees, diplomas or recognised qualifications, and completing a course does not confer any formal credential or entitle you to credit at any institution.
We present material honestly and with care, but history involves interpretation, and scholars disagree. We do not promise that you will reach any particular level of knowledge.
13. Our responsibility to you
We will provide the course with reasonable care and skill.
If we fail to meet these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking this contract. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable.
We do not exclude or limit our liability to you in any way where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and for breach of your legal rights in relation to the services we supply.
Subject to that, our total liability to you in connection with a course is limited to the total fee you paid for that course.
We are not liable for business losses. We supply our courses for private study, and if you use them for any commercial purpose we will have no liability to you for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.
14. Events outside our control
If we are prevented from delivering a course by something beyond our reasonable control, we will contact you as soon as possible and arrange a new date. If the disruption is substantial, you may cancel and receive a refund for the part of the course not delivered.
15. Your personal information
We use your personal information as set out in our Privacy Notice. It explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and your rights.
16. If something goes wrong
Please tell us — email info@ajnadayninstitute.co.uk and we will try to put it right.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, our Privacy Notice explains how to complain to us, and how to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.
17. Other terms
These terms. We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to you is the one in force when your place was confirmed, and we will keep a copy available on request.
Transferring the contract. You may not transfer your place to another person without our agreement. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation, and we will tell you if we do; if you are unhappy about it, you may cancel and receive a refund for the part of the course not delivered.
If a court finds part of these terms unlawful, the rest will continue in force.
If we delay enforcing these terms, that does not prevent us from enforcing them later.
No third party rights. This contract is between you and us. No other person has any right to enforce it.
18. Law and courts
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you and we may bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales.
If you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you may also bring proceedings in your own country's courts. If you live outside the United Kingdom, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of the country where you are resident.
Schedule — Model cancellation form
You only need to use this form if you want to cancel. An email saying you wish to cancel is equally valid.
